Tracey: Tracey here from Pop Blitz Magazine. We are talking to Rob Pinkston, who plays Coconut Head on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. Rob, can you please introduce yourself?
Rob: Hey, what’s up everybody? I’m Rob and I’m cool.
Tracey: We talked to Devon a few weeks ago. What’s the cast like? Do you guys hang out off set?
Rob: Yeah, yeah we hang out all the time. Devon is the coolest guy. We’re like best friends. We’re actually hanging out today, we’re going to a theme park.
Tracey: That’s cool. You’re a senior in high school. Are you looking forward to graduating?
Rob: Um yeah, I am I am. Just because I’m really excited. I want to go to college. I want to go to film school. I’m excited to get to where I want to be.
Tracey: What are your plans after graduation? Do you plan on going to college?
Rob: Yeah, I am. I’m actually hoping to go to UCLA film school, cos I really want to go there.
Tracey: For film?
Rob: Oh yeah, for film, for directing and cinematography. All that good stuff.
Tracey: Sweet, that’ll help you out, give you a different input, a different view on things.
Rob: Yeah I like film from every angle. I like acting. I like directing. I like changing the shots, the lighting and everything.
Tracey: You were on a handful of episodes of MTV’s “Punk’d”. Who was your favorite person to punk?
Rob: Um, I think the most exciting person to punk was Zac Braff, because he freaked out. I mean, he was just, nuts. But then again, also Serena Williams freaked out too, and we literally got in a car chase on that one. I mean, so yeah it would be a tie between Serena and Zac. They were both insane.
Tracey: If you could punk anyone, who would it be, and how would you do it?
Rob: This is the question I’m always asked, and I never have a good answer for it. I’m not good at writing punk’s, I don’t know how they come up with them. I really wanna punk Johnny Depp or Leonardo Dicaprio because they are my favorite actors. And I just really want to meet them afterwards. So I would have to come up with something. But I’m really bad at coming up with those ideas. I don’t know how they write those things, so I’ll figure out a way. But I would punk those people.
Tracey: What was it like working with Ashton?
Rob: He’s really cool. He’s really tall, which you know, I didn’t know. When I first met him it was kind of daunting because it was like away, he’s a giant guy. And he has really cool clothes. But that’s just a side note. I think he dresses really well too. And he’s a really funny guy. He’s just really energetic, all the time. For the Serena one we had to get there at like 4 or 5, 4 in the morning, to get ready and start setting up. And he’s right there at 4 in the morning, all ready, and at his peak energy, hopping around, you know making jokes, and everythings going. And I don’t know how he does that.
Tracey: Oh man, I’d be dead tired if I had to wake up at that time.
Rob: *laughs* Yeah, it was pretty bad.
Tracey: You filmed a movie over the summer. What can you tell us about “The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang”? When does it come out?
Rob: Um, it’s actually premiering in, I want to say about a week, at the Slamdance film festival, which goes on at the same exact time as the Sundance. They’re kind of competing film festivals. The movie is about this group of nerds walking through the forest on a hike, and they find this pile of sasquash poo, and tracks. And they think that the poo is really sasquatch poo. They go to tell the authorities and you know, trying to find this huge evidence. And so they’re doing that. But then you find out that there’s these 2 redneck hick boys that are trying to profit off the situation, and things don’t end up as they seem. It’s think it’s really funny. And I’m really excited for it to come out in about a week.
Tracey: Sounds cool. Your character on Ned has a nickname. Do you have any yourself?
Rob: Um yeah, okay this is what happened. I found that everybody that was cool had a nickname. I wanted one, but nobody would give me one, so I made up my own nickname. So everybody calls me babycakes now, cos I just made that up. That’s my nickname, babycakes.
Tracey: What do you like to do in your free time?
Rob: I like to hang out, like today I’m going to a theme park. I like to play guitar a lot. I like to play videogames a lot. So yeah, whenever I’m not playing with my friends playing videogames and guitar, I’m hanging out by myself playing videogames and guitar.
Tracey: Go on rollercoasters now maybe?
Rob: *laughs* Yeah, and rollercoasters now maybe. I just conquered my fear so *whew* yeah I’m excited.
Tracey: Your skills include skateboarding, snowboarding, cycling, swimming, diving, video game playing, and acoustic/electric guitar. Wow. Is there anything you’re not that great at that you would like to improve?
Rob: *pshhht* I’m great at everything. *laughs* Oh gosh, there’s so many things that I would like to be able to do better. But I work as hard as I can to be able to do everything I want to do, the best that I can. I don’t try, I don’t force myself to be the greatest at everything, cos if I did I’d be a big ball of stress. But you know, I, what would I like to do better? I would like to skateboard better. I like to skateboard, but I’m definitely not a pro. And it’s just really cool to see them do all those crazy tricks.
Tracey: Describe yourself in 5 words.
Rob: Short, blonde, weird, nerdy, and awesome.
Tracey: Nerdy and awesome got it. What’s your top 3 videogames?
Rob: My top 3 videogames?
Tracey: Yeah.
Rob: Oh gosh I’ve been playing “World of War Crafts” like crazy. It’s a really fun game. If nobody’s played it, check it out. What else is there? I play “Halo” a lot. And oooh gosh, I don’t know “Dance Dance Revolution”. I love that game.
Tracey: Yeah, I guess Chris Fedun from Jump 5 plays that all the time.
Rob: Oh yeah?
Tracey: Or Brandon, one of them.
Rob: It’s a pretty fun game.
