Tracey: Hey I’m Tracey.
Donna: And I’m Donna.
Tracey: And we are with Pop Blitz Magazine. Today we will be speaking with pop singer, Justin Phillips. Justin, can you please introduce yourself?
Justin: Hey, this is Justin Phillip. What’s up?
Tracey: What inspired you to become a singer? – Ashley, Bianca, Lauren, Elayne
Justin: When I was about 8 years old I was in the car with my mom, and I was listening to the radio, and I heard an announcement saying that there was going to be a convention in Orlando, and they were looking for young artists, models, and dancers. So I was like “Mom I have to do this.” and she didn’t know where it was coming from, that I wanted to do this, but we went on it. We went, and they were like “What competitions do you want to enter?” music, or whatever, so I entered all of them. Of course, nothing came out of it and so I was really depressed. And that’s when I started working on it. Just something I really wanted to do, so I started working on it, getting better. Then I went again, and I actually got called by my people.
Donna: Cool.
Tracey: That’s awesome.
Justin: Yeah, that’s what made me really see this is what I really wanted to do, you know.
Tracey: Right, exactly. When and why did u decide u wanted to get into the music industry? – Dana
Justin: Well, like I said it was about when I was 8 years old, but it’s been, 4 years ago was when I really decided music was where I belonged. It’s something that I wanted to work on, record songs, and perform for people is something that I love. The applause of an audience changes everything. Just walking out onto the stage, you can be really nervous backstage. A lot of times I am, really really nervous, and then once I walk out onstage something comes over me, and I’m a different person.
Tracey: What makes you different from the other singers out there your age? – Danielle
Justin: I would have to say, I have a different kind of style. I don’t know a lot of 17 year olds who are into the R&B thing. I think I’m a complete performer. Some people are a little different. I like to get the audience involved a lot, and just make it a jam packed performance, something that you’re never going to forget. Like people are going to remember “Oh I remember when Justin Phillip performed, that was really amazing”. I think that makes a difference.
Tracey: Right, I like when the artist actually interacts with the crowd.
Justin: Right.
Tracey: Grabs hands, sings to people. Because if they ignore you, and don’t even look at the audience, it’s not as much fun at all.
Justin: Right, the whole point of somebody coming to see you is to be interacted with. That’s what everybody wants, you know.
Donna: Makes it like ten times more fun.
Justin: Yeah.
Tracey: Especially if you’re one of the lucky people *laughs*.
Donna: Yeah *laughs*
Justin: *laughs*
Tracey: Do your songs reflect your inner feelings? If so, are fans able to relate? – Ashley
Justin: Yeah, all of my songs reflect my feelings, and I’m sure feelings, that a lot people are out there. Everybody can relate, when they hear like “Get Over You”, when you’re going through something with somebody, and you thought this person is in the past, and you can move onto somebody new or whatever, and you end up realizing, wait that person meant so much to me that I can’t move on. I need that person again, and you really get into that person again. I think a lot of people can really relate to a lot of my songs, because they are past experiences that everybody has gone through, you know.
Donna: Uhhuh.
Tracey: If u could collaborate with anyone who would it be? – Danielle
Justin: I would have to say Will Smith, because I have a lot of respect for him. He goes out there, and he sets a positive image. You never hear, like a lot of cursing in his music. Everything with him is very positive. Again, he’s a full entertainer. He gets the audience going, really hyped. I saw him when he came here to do our Jingle Ball, and he came out in a sleigh, and did this whole big entrance thing, and that’s amazing, that’s what I really want to be. Somebody who is an entertainer, an all around entertainer.
Tracey: Right, things like that make things more fun. I know for our Jingle Ball Gavin Degraw, think it was Gavin, yeah he actually leapt off the stage, and went up into the bleachers. And the fans started running after him, and security started running after them.
Donna: Yeah.
Justin: Yeah *laughs*.
Tracey: It was so crazy. But I mean it made it really entertaining to watch.
Donna: He was just running around in the crowd.
Justin: That makes a difference in everything.
